OH MY GOD.
It was unbelievable. I don’t live in a city where the music scene is particularly lively, so the fact that a band like The Pixies chose to play here is beyond me.
Anyways, we got there at about 6:30, and when we were finally allowed, I got a place right at the front fence! Naturally, I latched onto it for the next five hours. And the people who stood behind my friend and I were the nicest people! They have been following The Pixies around, and told us their exact song lineup from the last show. They named all of my favourite songs that they were going to play, with the exception of one. I asked if they played U-Mass and the boyfriend said no.
Nearly every person there was so nice. At one point, there was this drunk man who asked if he could just squeeze in in front of me. Without waiting for a reply, he started tugging me away, when this big middle aged man told him to go around me or get the fuck out. It was pretty wonderful and terrifying.
Then the concert started. Oh my God, you guys, I was literally in front of Kim Deal. There was absolutely no one in front of me! Which was wonderful because I’m small and people always tower over me.
Black Francis sounded amazing. It was loud and energetic and messy but not too messy, I couldn’t have imagined it sounding any better. Also, the songs! All of my favourites: Every song off Doolittle, Dig For Fire, Gigantic, Where is My Mind, even U-MASS!
Sorry for how choppy this is, but I just got back less than an hour ago and felt like sharing.
To whoever is the male equivalent of Kim Deal:
