Green Arrow by Yo La Tengo

One time not too long ago, I went to this party that didn’t make me feel totally uncomfortable, the people were nice and smart and the conversations weren’t forced. When I got home, I laid down with my back against my bed, and my hands under my head, and turned this song on. It was great and I felt really, really happy.

…I don’t quite remember where I was going with this, but this song is perfect to listen to at night.

At first, I started to cringe.

Then I started to smile.

Painter In Your Pocket by Destroyer

I am so glad Destroyer’s new album is getting some hype, I really hope to see it on a lot of end of the year lists. This isn’t from his new album, but Kaputt  did remind me of just how great their 2006 album Destroyer’s Rubies is. I’d say Dan Bejar is one of my favourite lyricists, and that’s coming from someone who usually finds new music kind of boring. Although, with his accent, I’m pretty sure I’d find anything he says witty.

“I didn’t stand a chance
I couldn’t stand at all
You looked ok with the others
You looked great on your own”

One of my favourite songs of 2010. I am completely jealous that I didn’t think of that guitar riff at the beginning first.

I've Been Tired by The Pixies from the album: Come On Pilgrim

I said “I wanna be a singer like Lou Reed”
“I like Lou Reed” she said sticking her tongue in my ear
“Let’s go, let’s sit, let’s talk”
“Politics go so good with beer”
“And while we’re at it baby, why don’t you tell me one of your biggest fears?”
I said “Losing my penis to a whore with disease”
“Just kidding” I said “Losing my life to a whore with disease”
She said “Excuse me, please?”
I said “Please… I’m a humble guy with a healthy desire”
“Don’t give me no shit because…”

Only Black Francis…

(I’d just like to apologize in advance for the ridiculous Pixies spam that is sure to come).

Make Out Club by Unrest

“You were the very first one”

Aww, I love it when great bands have a great sense of humour.

Another Girl, Another Planet by The Only Ones

You get under my skin
I don’t find it irritating
You always play to win
But I won’t need rehabilitating”

I am basically mad at everyone who’s heard this band and has not told me about it right now.

Cardinal Song by The National from the album: Sad Songs For Dirty Lovers

If I could look half as good as Matt Berninger when I’m forty, I’d be absolutely cool with that

Game of Pricks by Guided By Voices from the album: Alien Lanes

I’m pretty sure this is the first band to make me realize, “Oh, there’s actually really great music before the 2000’s?”

No matter how bad some most of Robert Pollard’s solo stuff is, I will always love them for that.

Randy Described Eternity by Built to Spill from the album: Perfect From Now On

“Every thousand years
This metal sphere
Ten times the size of Jupiter
Floats just a few yards past the earth
You climb on your roof
And take a swipe at it
With a single feather
Hit it once every thousand years

Till you’ve worn it down
To the size of a pea
Yeah I’d say that’s a long time
But it’s only half a blink
In the place you’re gonna be

Cattle and Cane by The Go-Betweens from the album: Before Hollywood

This is what I have been listening to instead of doing everything I should be doing.

Gold Soundz by Pavement from the album: Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain

Is it just me, or is the title “Gold Soundz” really visually appealing?

Walkin' with Jesus by Spacemen 3 from the album: The Perfect Prescription

“We take drugs to make music to take drugs to”

dreams burn down by Ride from the album: Nowhere

The drums! Listen to the fucking drums!
