Cat Walk | Beat Happening
“i look at them out together
and i see she’s wearing my sweater
ah, what the heck, i might as well let her
i was hardly gone
before another boy came along
not to say that that is wrong
but i wish she’d leave my sweater home”
The This Many Boyfriends Club | Beat Happening
“We tip over apple carts,
with the pounding of our hearts”
Godsend | Beat Happening
“It’s just the things you do
You make it true
You’re a godsend”
In Between | Beat Happening
“And I remember when my parents met
It was years before my birth
And I can see them years from now
Their ghosts fly above the earth
And let’s not talk about what makes us die
Let the jokes make the years go by
Cause it’s a burden it’s hard to bear
It’s too easy to not even care”
Beat Happening.
Stove | Eric’s Trip
These guys! These guys were from my hometown! I remember I went to a record store once to pick up a Beat Happening CD, and then the cashier started reminiscing about how the band he was in opened for them once. He said that Calvin was really nice and a great performer. So I did what any creepy music nerd would do and researched the hell out of my town until I found out that the band was Eric’s Trip.
They were actually a really influential band, they heavily influenced the leader of The Microphones and Mount Eerie, Phil Elvrum. He’s even written them fan letters!
The Fall | Beat Happening
“we were walking along the street
and i fell down, and you said to me, you said,
‘calvin you’re my guy with incredible blue eyes
but i’ve got to live my own life’”
This is probably my second favourite song by Beat Happening. I’m not sure why I like it so much. But then again, I’m not sure why I even like Beat Happening so much.
I keep trying to write a lengthy review about this song, because it’s one of my favourites and I think it was really important to independent music and I want to express how beautiful it is.
But it keeps coming out as “ugh this is da best y aren’t u guys luvin it yet”.
“when i was young
i thought i was old
i sailed across the sea
to tokyo
i thought there must be more to this world
than we’re being told
when you’re young
you can afford to be bold”
